# Customize Writing Style

Control how klarvoice formats your speech — from punctuation and capitalization to tone and custom rules.

## What Is Writing Style?

Writing style controls how klarvoice converts your spoken words into text. While context mode detects *where* you are writing, writing style determines *how* the output sounds — regardless of the app.

## Preset Styles

Style | Description | Best for
--- | --- | ---

**Standard** | Natural, balanced | General use

**Formal** | Complete sentences, professional tone | Business emails, reports, legal documents

**Casual** | Short sentences, relaxed phrasing | Slack, WhatsApp, internal chats

**Bullet points** | Automatically converts prose into bullet points | Meeting notes, to-do lists

## Custom Instructions

You can enter specific instructions under **Settings → Writing Style → Custom Instructions**. Examples:

- "Always use active voice."
- "Replace 'gonna' with 'going to'."
- "Format dates as MM/DD/YYYY."
- "Keep sentences under 20 words."

## Example: Same Input, Three Styles

Style | Spoken | Output
--- | --- | ---

**Formal** | "I'll send you that tomorrow morning" | I will send you that tomorrow morning.

**Standard** | "I'll send you that tomorrow morning" | I'll send you that tomorrow morning.

**Casual** | "I'll send you that tomorrow morning" | sending it tomorrow morning

> **Tip:** Start with the Standard style and only adjust the parts that bother you. Too many custom rules can conflict with each other and reduce output quality.
