# Working Multilingually

klarvoice supports multiple languages, detects the language you are speaking automatically, and lets you switch mid-session or lock to a fixed language.

## Automatic language detection

By default, klarvoice detects the language you are speaking and transcribes accordingly. You do not need to change any settings when you switch languages — just speak, and klarvoice will follow.

## Switching languages mid-session

You can switch languages freely between recordings. Each press of the hotkey is an independent session, so switching requires no configuration.

## Fixing the language manually

If you work primarily in one language, set a fixed language in Settings.

1. Open klarvoice Settings.
2. Navigate to **Transcription**.
3. Under **Language**, select your preferred language from the list.
4. Save. klarvoice will now always transcribe in that language.

## Supported languages

Language tier | Characteristics | Examples
--- | --- | ---

**Tier 1** | Highest accuracy, full punctuation support | English, French, German, Spanish, Portuguese, Italian, Japanese, Chinese

**Tier 2** | Good accuracy, most punctuation supported | Dutch, Polish, Russian, Korean, Turkish, Swedish, Norwegian

**Tier 3** | Functional accuracy, punctuation may be limited | Other supported languages — see the full list in Settings

> Tip: If you are unsure about accuracy in your language, run a test recording with a few sentences and compare the output to what you said.
