# Configure Your Hotkey

Choose the perfect keyboard shortcut to start recording.

## Default Hotkey

After installation, `⌥ Space` (macOS) or `Alt + Space` (Windows) is set as the default hotkey. You can change it at any time.

## Changing Your Hotkey

1. Click the klarvoice icon in the menu bar / taskbar.
2. Open **Settings → Hotkey**.
3. Click the input field and press your desired key combination.
4. The new combination is saved immediately and active.

## Recommended Key Combinations

Combination | Platform | Notes

`⌥ Space` | macOS | Default — quick to reach

`Fn` (double press) | macOS | No conflicts with other apps

`Ctrl + Shift + S` | Windows | Reachable with one hand

`F6` | Both | Single key, easy to remember

## Recording Modes

### Toggle Mode (Default)

Press the hotkey once to start recording, again to stop. The transcribed text is inserted at your cursor position after stopping.

### Push-to-Talk

Hold the hotkey while speaking. When you release it, the text is inserted. Ideal for short dictations. Enable it under **Settings → Recording Mode → Push-to-Talk**.

> **Tip:** If your hotkey conflicts with another app, klarvoice shows a warning. Choose an alternative combination. `Fn` (double press) is nearly conflict-free on macOS.
